  • Avi. City of Light, City of Dark is not humorous, but it is an entire novel that makes use of the comic book format.
  • Blume, Judy Tales of a fourth grade nothing, Superfudge, and Fudge-amania. One of our third grade teachers always reads the first book to her students and they pick up the others.
  • Brown, Marc. Arthur is now in easy chapter books
  • Cuyler. Weird wolf.
  • Dadley, ?. Bailey School Series. They have names list Cupid doesn't flip hamburgers and Skeletons don't play tuba.
  • Dahl, Roald. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by is a favorite read-aloud.

  • Erickson. All of the Hank, the cowdog, series. (These are a little longer than the other books, but several boys are hooked on the series.)

  • Marshall, James books. They tend to be picture books instead of chapter books, but they have the same zany humor.
  • Marshall, James. Rats on the roof. Rats on the range.

  • Park, Barbara. "Junie B. Jones" series. They are funny, too.
  • Paulsen, Gary. "Dunc and Amos" books might hit the spot.
  • Peck, Richard "Soup" books.
  • Pilkey, Dav. Captain Underpants.
  • Rylant, ?. The easy chapter books by are consistently hot.
  • Sachar, Louis books (Sideways Stories series) are popular.
  • Scieszka, Jon. "Time Warp Trio" books. Three boys, one magic kit, time travel - throw in some gross-out primary level humor and wacky sketches - you can't go wrong. The first is Knights of the Kitchen Table.
  • Scieszkak, Jon. "Time Warp Trio" books -- they're hilarious, and there are at least 3 books in the series.
  • Spinner, Stephanie. Aliens for lunch and Aliens for dinner.
